God shows no partiality. We do well to learn that lesson and imitate. Sometimes doing so can be risky. When President Abraham Lincoln was out among the Union troops, touring the battlefield, he was shown around by the general's aide, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. At one point, while Lincoln, wearing his tall black hat, stood conspicuously above the earthworks, the enemy began to fire. Holmes grabbed Lincoln's arm and yanked at it, impulsively shouting, "Get down, you fool!" Later he wondered how severely he'd be reprimanded by the commander-in-chief. Instead, Lincoln said to him, as he was departing, "Good-bye, Captain Holmes. I'm glad you know how to speak to a civilian."
