A hailstorm when crops are growing can be very devastating in Iowa or anyplace where
agriculture is the main income. A few years ago, a hailstorm of the worst type struck a
rural community. Hail, the size of golf balls, fell. Crops were devastated and cars were
speckled with real damage. In a nearby Amish community, the fields were about 75
percent destroyed and their gardens in some places were a total loss.
One Amish mother said to her family, "The fields and garden are nearly gone, but we have an abundance of ice for ice cream. Gather all you can and we will feast on ice cream!" The family gathered all they could, enjoyed ice cream, and stored some ice away for later use. Can we accept the lemons that come our way, and by God's grace, use the lemons to make lemonade? Most Amish live without electricity and refrigeration.
