He was a retired attorney...

He was a retired attorney and judge, white hair and beard, and, to most of the world, a distinguished gentleman. But, to the young neighbor children, he was just a loving "grandpa" type person who read them the Sunday comics every week. One or the other of them would get to sit on his lap as he read and they would listen patiently, only partially comprehending the bigger words of the text. When he finished, the children would look up and say, "Now, tell'em." And, patiently, the old man would go back and explain each of the strips in words the children could understand at their tender years.
For centuries, human beings had heard the Law of God, listened to the Prophets of God, and observed the working of God in creation, only partly comprehending what God was communicating to humankind. It was as if God heard us say, "Now, tell it," put your message in terms to which we can fully relate and understand. So, God sent his Son, "taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men."
