Herb Miller tells the story...

Herb Miller tells the story of a church executive who made a reservation for him and his family to stay at a hotel on their vacation. He had never seen the hotel but upon their arrival they saw that it was in a sad state of disrepair. Nevertheless they stayed the night in the dilapidated building. The next morning they all heard the steady thud of a wrecking ball very close to them. The thuds seemed closer and closer when they suddenly realized that the wrecking ball was hitting the hotel where they were staying. The hotel was being torn down around them.
Poor communication for vacation reservations, in churches, or on towers can have devastating results. When we become too full of ourselves, God confuses our language. When we focus on our Creator, God can facilitate our communication. Pentecost is an upside down tower of Babel.
