Here's an odd example of grace:
There was a governor of Texas long ago who issued many pardons. Unflattering things were said about his character -- unjust, no doubt. Once, so it was claimed, a man called on him to plead for a pardon for his son. The governor kept calling the visitor's attention to a horse grazing in the yard and mentioned that he would be glad to sell the animal.
At last, the man broke in:
"But, Governor, I don't want to buy a horse; I'm here to get a pardon for my boy. What good would a horse be to me, anyhow?"
The official replied softly: "Your son could ride home from the penitentiary on him."
