In his book, Congregational Evangelism: A Pastor's View, Maxie Dunnam tells the story of a young woman named Leigh which demonstrates what it means to love someone as yourself. Leigh had recently lost an aunt who was almost like a mother to her. It had been a painful experience and involved lots of crying which was necessary for healing to take place. One morning, Leigh's six-year-old daughter, Katie, seeing her mother's grief, painted a picture and gave it to her. With concern in her voice she said, "I want you to feel better." That night as Leigh tucked Katie into bed, she thanked her for the lovely gift and told her that it had made her feel better. Then she added, "But Katie, I want you to know that Mommy may cry a lot more because I loved Aunt Ola so much." "But, Mommy," Katie said, "I am afraid you will turn into a tear." Leigh responded, "Well, if I turned into a tear, would you wipe me up?" Katie was thoughtful for a moment and finally said, "No, I'd put you into my eye." -- Angus
