In his book It's Not About the Bike, Lance Armstrong relates his rocky journey from world champion bicycle racer to cancer survivor to Tour de France winner. After it became apparent that he had survived cancer, Lance went through a dark time of uncertainty when he wasn't sure whether he would return to bike racing or not. After some soul searching, he was finally able to decide that he wanted to put in the work to be the best bike racer he could be, concentrating on the Tour de France. All of Lance's training focused on the Tour. He moved to France and trained in the Pyrenees, making a point of doing his hardest training rides whenever the weather was coldest and wettest. This way, Lance knew that during the toughest days of the most grueling bicycle race in the world, he would have the strength and endurance he would need to win.
