In his marvelous anthology of one hundred words and phrases,* Edward Chinn tells of a triumphant procession into ancient Rome. The leader of the victorious troops led the way in his elaborate chariot, pulled by proud white horses. Thousands cheered along the Via Appia while sentries held the crowds back. As the chariot approached his spot along the route, a young boy darted out into the street. A sentry snagged him, barking hoarsely at him, "Little boy, you can't go out there! That's the emperor!" The youngster answered cheerfully, "He may be your emperor, but he's my daddy!"
Abba. "Daddy." Jesus says we can call our everlasting Emperor "Dear Daddy." So does Paul. Not only are we heirs of his, we have permission to enjoy, embrace, and love him as our Father.
What a Christmas present!
