How difficult it is for...

How difficult it is for us in our daily prayers to praise God, to adore him, and to thank him. We often have to force ourselves to consider all that we have been given and to rid our minds of imagining only what we can get. When we fail to do this, we quickly discover that our prayers of asking are the dominant prayers.
It makes it easier to be thankful if we precede our prayers with a reminder of what God has done for us. After all, God gives his "ten commandments" only after he reminds the Hebrews that he had miraculously rescued them at the Red Sea. He wants them to accept his law in a spirit of gratefulness. God wants us to be in partnership with him and so he gave us his Son both as a mediator and as a ransom. This is language that again underlines what God has given us as a very precious gift. We need only respond with praise and thanksgiving.
