How easily or unrealistic expectations can lead us into dissatisfaction with daily living.
During a political campaign, William Jennings Bryan was to speak in a major city. The man presenting Bryan to the audience went on and on with an overly laudatory introduction and was embarrassing to all. Many wondered how Bryan would deal with this unfortunate introduction. This is what he said, "The very kind observations of the chairman bring to my mind the case of the man at a formal banquet table, who impulsively put into his mouth a large forkful of steaming hot baked potato, which he instantly spat out upon his plate. Looking about at his disconcerted fellow guests and at his hostess, he remarked blandly, 'Some damn fools would have swallowed that.' "
