How many of us could ask with Gideon, "If the Lord is with us, how do these bad things happen to us?" In a truck stop restroom some well-meaning person put up the words from Romans 8:31, "If God is for us, who is against us?" Some trucker had added the words, "The dispatcher."
The sixth chapter of Judges hints at the victory of the 300 in the seventh chapter. Is it possible for God to do something with just a few? Think of what God did with just 12 disciples.
John A. Broaddus had been teaching preaching since before the Civil War. Now that the Civil War was over, surely Broaddus would have a good number of students. What would you have done in the year 1865-66 if you had only one student and him blind? I think most people would not teach. However, Broaddus used that year to lecture and out of those lectures came On the Preparation and Delivery of Sermons. Broaddus taught at the Southern Baptist Seminary, Louisville.
