How one deals with the sorrows of life will very much determine that person's future ability to live a productive life. To, "Take off the garment of your sorrows and afflictions," is to face the realities of the human condition, head on. Once removed, however, life begins to take shape again. As life begins to fashion itself anew, battered and bruised though it may be, it is still a life lived within the confines of God's bying embrace. God gathers all of God's children, because there is no condition in which we ever find ourselves outside of God's attention.
God faithfully led the people from slavery in Egypt to the promised land, to a life of new possibilities. Throughout the entire journey God continued to reassure the people that they were not alone.
The same is true for us. Throughout our life, whether in bondage, or living in isolation that is the result of an uncaring world, God is present. In Etty Hillison's book, "An Interrupted Life: The Diaries of Etty Hullison, 1941-43," she writes, "There are moments when I feel like a little bird, tucked away in a great protective Hand." What a wonderful description of our condition. We are, throughout our life, tucked away in the safe confines of God's eternal hand.
