Hundreds of tourists include a day or more at the Butchart Gardens on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. They stroll along the paths which take them from one section to another, surrounded by glorious flowers. More than 5,000 varieties of plants, shrubs, and trees grow there, having been carefully selected to make a visit a beautiful experience. One moves from one garden to another and another. Specialties are the sunken garden, the English rose garden, and the Italian and Japanese gardens. Stay over for the evening symphony concert and night illumination and you will not forget the setting. The Butchart family had a vision of such gardens. They looked long and hard at the ugly, old limestone quarry which had been long deserted. What could be done with that eyesore? Ah, a garden! They transformed the scene from ugliness to beauty. Thank you, good friends, for your vision and your gift!
