I have a good friend...

I have a good friend who once served as a college chaplain. She has many great stories to
tell about religious life on a college campus, but one I remember the best was the time
she sat in the lobby of the biggest freshman dormitory on campus and just listened to the
parting words of advice from parents to children on the first weekend of a new term.
She heard many of the usual sorts of thing like, "Study hard," "Call us every week," and "Remember to separate your colors from your whites." But, she also heard some things that surprised and sometimes moved her. In one of the memorable exchanges, she overheard a father say to his son, "You're a man now; I expect you to act like one."
Paul is saying something similar in this passage when he reminds us to "Fill our minds with those things that are good and deserve praise." In a way, Paul is saying, "You are mature Christians now, and I expect you to act like it."
