I recently had the opportunity to visit several countries of Europe, and came home filled with awe at some of the wonderful things I had seen. One of my most outstanding memories is that of the beautiful cathedrals of England, France and Germany. While I appreciated the magnificant work of the stone cutters, I was most impressed with the work of the stained glass artists. To realize the full significance of their work, one must remember that the beautiful windows depict the scenes of the Bible for the illiterate as well as the literate. As they followed each particular story in panes of multicolored glass, the peasant as well as the king could understand. I was told that the many beautiful windows of the cathedral at Chartnes, France, depicted two hundred stories from the Bible.
These artists were certainly inspired by the Spirit of God to tell the message of his truth. Likewise, poets, writers, teachers and others are also inspired by his Spirit. We make a great mistake when we believe that those persons officially ordained by the Christ are the only ones who are inspired by his Spirit.
