I unlocked the church door...

I unlocked the church door to let in a young woman wearing shorts, t-shirt, and baseball cap. In one hand she held a youthful cola drink, in the other a checklist of things to do. She and her friends who soon arrived looked like they were ready for a morning of softball or yardwork. Actually they had come to get ready for a formal wedding. In just a few hours a marvelous transformation took place. The woman who had earlier looked ready to dive in the dirt to stop a grounder was dressed in an elegant gown and radiated joy and excitement. She had become something new to celebrating the beginning of something new. John the Divine envisions a time when the work and play of this world is transformed into the new reality. In his vision, humans trade in the clothing and trials of toil and dress in celebrative white as part of God's new beginning. The new age comes to us "as a bride adorned for her husband." The change is taking place even as we sit here. God is changing the ordinary into that which is eternally elegant.
