Important relationships shape our lives...

Important relationships shape our lives. Think of the young American women engaged during Vietnam, the Korean war, and World Wars I and II to young men who were far away for months and even years. Many of these young women, in upholding their commitments to their future spouses, lived differently after their engagements than they did before. They refused even the best of offers for Friday night dances and Saturday night parties. They saved as much money as they could for nest eggs for their marriages. They altered their lifestyles out of their love for their fianc‚s. But a young woman was able to live as "engaged" only as long as she could trust her fianc‚. Her fiance's trustworthiness and her confidence in his love made these social and financial sacrifices possible. She wanted to do what was best for the relationship, because she looked forward eagerly to the day when the war would be over, they would be reunited, and their married life could begin. Her trust in her loved one and her vision for the future gave her the strength and courage she needed to live each day faithful to her fianc‚ and hopeful for the future. -- Spencer
