Incredible media scrutiny followed Justin Timberlake's "unveiling" of Janet Jackson during the half-time show at the Super Bowl. The exposure of her breast challenged one of America's taboos: public nudity. There are things that are and are not done in every culture. Reports of the incident in the U.S. media intentionally obscured the view as part of avoiding compounding the problem. The same cannot be said in many other parts of the world. Many American tourists who happened to be abroad at the time of the incident were shocked to discover the front pages of foreign newspapers portraying photographs that completely revealed what happened. Those same cultures possess their own taboos related to things that are socially acceptable and unacceptable. Taboos may relate to gestures, language, food issues, or certain behaviors.
