Irish author Samuel Beckett wrote a tragic/comedy titled, Waiting for Godot, in which the main characters Estragon and Vladimir are waiting for a man by the name of Godot to come to them. The entire play is about their waiting. They are hopeful that Godot will come as he said he would. They wait and wait. They do talk about whether Godot will, in fact, come. Time weighs on them. Estragon tries on a pair of boots that are found, commenting on what silly things they are doing to give them a sense of purpose while they wait. In the end, they are left waiting for Godot, doing nothing, going nowhere. How fortunate we are, that as we wait for the return of Jesus, we have purposeful activity to fill our time. We can rejoice, pray, give thanks, do good, and abstain from evil. -- Molldrem
