Isaiah speaks of being chosen...

Isaiah speaks of being chosen. Others have chosen to be faithful to God. On January 12, 1723, when Jonathan Edwards was a preacher in New York City, Edwards made this pledge which he wrote: Resolved, Never, henceforward, till I die, to act as if I were any way my own, but entirely and altogether God's, agreeable to what is to be found in Saturday, Jan. 12.
Edwards also wrote on Jan. 12: Resolved, That no other end but religion, shall have any influence at all on any of my actions; and that no action shall be, in the least circumstance, any otherwise than the religious end will carry it.
We will recognize Isaiah's words as those which Jesus used in Luke 4 to identify himself and his mission. But we must not let the matter end there. 1 Peter 2:9 refers to the Church: "... you are the chosen race, the King's priests, the holy nation God's own people, chosen to proclaim the wonderful acts of God ..."
