It is generally known that when you chop down a tree, the roots stop growing causing the
stump to eventually rot and decay. One tree, however, the Royal Paulownia, or Empress
Tree, does something different. If the tree is at least ten years old and well established,
when it is cut down, the stump will grow a new tree.
In a similar vein, starfish will grow a new arm if one of their arms has been damaged or bitten off. One unique starfish, the Linkia, goes even further. These fish routinely cast off a limb. Even though this cast-off limb does not contain any part of the central disk, it will develop into an entirely new fish.
The people of Israel were a stump, a cast-off arm, after the Assyrian invasion. God promised to take that stump and grow a new branch.
