It had been 30 years since he had walked down the aisle the first time. Back then, he was the acolyte leading the dedication service procession in the new church building. He remembered the feelings of honor and anxiety wonderfully mixed together as he had made that majestic walk to the altar so long ago.
Now, he was a parish pastor himself, being asked to preach the anniversary sermon for this, his home church. As he made the trek down the aisle this time, it was as if the building was speaking to him, giving him a statistical report: "Within these walls, God has been busy bringing blessings to his people. 326 baptisms, 106 weddings, 30 Christmas Eve programs, 15 Easter chancel dramas,..."
It felt good to be back in this holy place, worshiping this good and gracious God.
