It is increasingly common in small churches for a seminary-trained pastor not to be called
(and paid), but for a "team" of parishioners to be raised up to leadership, some ordained
and some not. The by-word is, "Don't call a minister, be a minister." Emphasis is put on
the scripturally based idea that every faith community already has all the gifts that that
body needs -- that just because it may be a small church in a small community, they are
not lacking in any spiritual gift.
