In Jesus Christ, we are...

In Jesus Christ, we are dead to sin and alive to God. We can move beyond living in dishonesty. Some, unfortunately, don't get there.
Some years ago an Italian nicknamed Giovanni the Immortal developed what he considered to be a foolproof scheme for making a living without actually working. He perfected the art of stepping out in front of moving automobiles without doing mortal harm to himself. He became skilled at "sticking it to" the insurance companies, all of which seemed eager to pay off rather than contest the claims. It also became a good living for his cronies, who agreed to testify on his behalf each time he ended up in court.
The day inevitably came when he misjudged a car's speed and was fatally run over. At his funeral, a reporter for a local television program asked one of the mourners, an old man who had been a frequent witness at Giovanni's court appearances, how he felt about his benefactor's demise. The old man shrugged and said, "This time he exaggerated."
