Jesus' kingdom is not...

Jesus' kingdom is not an earthly one, but his power is absolute. Earthly rulers sometimes unintentionally pattern the authority that really belongs to God alone.
France's most autocratic monarch, Louis XIV, is a case in point. Louis was discussing on one occasion the absolute power that a monarch must exercise over his subjects. One of his counts objected that such power must have its limits. Louis replied, "If I commanded you to throw yourself into the sea, you would be the first to obey me."
The count, instead of replying, turned his back and walked toward the door. Astonished, Louis asked him where he was going. Said the count, "To learn to swim, sire."
