Jesus touched the eyes of blind Bartimaeus and said, "Go, your faith has made you well, has saved you." Bartimaeus looked into the eyes of Jesus. He had never seen eyes before, nor mouths, nor ears, nor sand, nor mountains, nor a blue canopy of sky overhead. "Lord, I can see! I can see!" Jesus replied, "Would that you see with your soul as well as with your eyes!" Bartimaeus was so excited all he could say was, "But, Jesus, how can I repay you? What can I give you? Let me be your servant and follow you all my life." Jesus shook his head. Bartimaeus did not yet "see." Patiently Jesus replied, "The gift of sight, as the gift of life, is God's grace, a free gift. Live your life now, a servant of God." Then Bartimaeus accepted his "second sight," eternal life now, and followed Jesus on the way.
