Jesus understood the difficulties of seeing those who are closest to us, or those whom we know so well, as leaders. How could this one whom we saw grow, this one whom we saw through these last years now be our teachers as pastors? How can one who is like us, from our same roots be different than us?
Martin Luther King, Jr. called for the end of racism and economic exploitation. His words were often eloquent, his depth profound. By some he was recognized as a prophet. He was presented with the Nobel Peace Prize, an international celebration of his call for peace and his seeking non-violent solutions to high conflict issues. Yet, often his message was rejected because of his color. People asked, "How could a Black man be a prophet?" Long ago, others asked, "How could a Nazarene be a prophet?"
