Jesus valued women and women...
Illustration
Jesus valued women and women valued him. As the church continues to debate how women can best serve God, Jesus gives us a fine example. Christ's church empowered women for lasting leadership.
Jean is a secretary to the chancellor of a large southern private university. Her responsibilities are to handle the schedule of her boss plus deal with trustees. The volunteers in a privately funded school tend to be rich, high strung and used to being waited upon. Jean meets their needs with calm and assurance. Jean is a perfect servant.
When Jean goes home, she cares for her father who has acute dementia. As a daughter, she shows the same servant leadership she uses at the highest ranks of the university.
Each of the four Gospel writers has a slightly different version of the movements of Christ after his death. All the writers show Mary as one entrusted by Christ to tell the brothers and sisters in the church that they belong together. Jesus gave that message to a woman, empowered by God to spread the gospel.
