John H. Withers, an Irish Presbyterian, said in a sermon on "Stress and Strain":
"Stress and strain are what the French call 'la maladie du siecle' -- the disease of the century." The Christian faith and its disciplines of prayer, resignation, and worship have much to contribute to the curing of those who are oppressed by care and tension. Christian worship re-creates a person as he or she gazes away from one's own petty little self to the great infinity of God. And Christ offers peace to those who trust him. Remember that the New Testament word for peace really means "wholeness" or "health."
'Tis not the grave peace of silence,
Still'd lips, long face,
Blank emptiness.
But the peace of a symphony,
Chord upon chord
Built to a plan.
(Colossians 3:15)
