Josh was a normal, inquisitive adolescent. He liked to explore, take risks, and push the
limits. When he was fourteen, he and a friend broke into a neighbor's house and looted
the liquor cabinet. That was the start of Josh's downhill slide. By the time Josh was a
junior in high school he was drinking daily, getting so drunk some nights that he didn't
remember what he did or how he got home. His grades plummeted as his nightlife soared.
Finally, one night in a drunken stupor, he fell down the stairs of a parking garage face
first into the plate-glass door. The glass shattered and Josh was badly cut and
permanently scarred.
Later when he sat and talked with counselors he cried. "Help me," he sobbed. "I can't stop doing it. I don't want to drink anymore, but I just can't stop." That cry was the beginning of a long journey to sobriety, and a cry that echoes Paul's battle with sin.
