The Judeo-Christian tradition lifts up this scripture passage as one of its flagship affirmations. Doing justice sets the godly apart. There will always be opposition when it's attempted. David Lloyd George was reminded of that when, as a member of the English Parliament in 1890, he advocated for home rule for the colonies then under British control. In an impassioned floor speech, he exclaimed, "Home Rule in Ireland, Home Rule in India, Home Rule in South Africa." He was interrupted by a heckler from the other side of the aisle who shouted back, "Home Rule for Hell." Undeterred, Lloyd George glared at the man and retorted, "Yes, and Home Rule for Hell. I like every man to speak for his own country."
