In July of 1997, the television program 20/20 showed a dramatic rescue of a young person who had been swept away by icy floodwaters and who clung precariously to a ledge. A few feet away, the vortex of water swirled into an underground drainage culvert. Instant death awaited the victim and any rescuer if they lost their grip.
At risk to his personal existence the EMS/fireman reached the young person and completed a dramatic rescue. For the rest of his life, the near victim will remember and be grateful that one person cared and at great jeopardy to himself gave him another opportunity for life, snatching him from a sure and certain death.
Paul tells us in Colossians that "he rescued us from the power of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of his beloved son." Each day is a new opportunity to live in gratefulness to Christ, who gave his all in order that we might have a meaningful life.
