Kip Keino will be remembered...

Kip Keino will be remembered as a great long distance runner. Keino, from Kenya, won two Olympic gold medals and two silvers in 1968 and 1972. He set world records in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters. In his first Olympic win at Mexico City in 1968 he won the 1,500 meter race in record time. That becomes even more impressive when we learn that he was stuck in traffic and had to jog about a mile in the stadium before winning the 1,500 gold medal. He finished second in the 5,000 meter race even though he was suffering from a severe gall bladder infection.
In 1972 Keino won the gold medal in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, an event he had only begun competing in four months earlier. He capped his career with a silver medal in the 1,500 meter race.
With all these outstanding achievements, Kip Keino's really outstanding performance - and that of his wife - has been to take in over 100 children into their home since their marriage in 1964. Now hear Paul, "May the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow more and more ... (1 Thessalonians 3:12)."
