When traveling in Moslem countries, one will often see veiled women who remind us of biblical Rebekah wearing a veil to indicate she was of marriageable age. Veils are used for various purposes; all the way from covering one's face for different reasons to the scriptural reference of a veil in the Jewish temple which hid the Holy of Holies from open view. St. Paul used the veil as a metaphor in writing to the Corinthians.
It is a fact that something likened to a veil, figuratively speaking, obscured the Old Testament Scriptures without the light from Christ. We do not see the meaning of the old covenant until we have seen the new. The idea of a suffering servant-savior, as taught by Isaiah, is a mystery until it comes alive in the suffering Savior on the cross. Christ lifts the veil. Remember that at the death of Christ the veil of the temple was rent from top to bottom. This indicated that humans now were at liberty to worship before Almighty God. "Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom." His Spirit now is everywhere bringing to light the gospel.
