If the plot is not well developed, you might as well throw away a good book! There are no shortages of well positioned plots in the Bible. In this one, Jeremiah's life is endangered by his kinsmen of Anothoth. What is a plot? In short, it is an experience from which you learn that you cannot have your cake and eat it too!
Biblical plots are amazingly complex: Adam and Eve are expelled from the garden; Cain is expelled and yet protected from being murdered; Moses is not allowed into the "... land flowing with milk and honey ..." Now we have another great biblical leader who is caught between the Devil and the deep blue sea.
One such plot brought to our understanding came in the movie "West Side Story." The two factions had decided that the only way to determine the "rightness" of the conflict would be by war. Since the police had come into the scene as not willing to allow a street fight, a duel was settled upon. As we all know, the duel began with Tony interrupting. His abeyance only results in his own death, and, of course, the entire audience was brought to tears by this scene.
Jeremiah is caught between the priests and the prophets. His death by one of the groups seems certain, except for the fact that there is another plot coming along which entails the relationship of One Greater. Jeremiah is reminded by God that fearing him will be the more important option in his life. Believing, trusting, and following God, Jeremiah overcomes the adversity of the situation and gains favor in the sight of God.
