An interesting story on effective witnessing is told about a seventy-year-old blind woman in Africa. She was so grateful for the new life she had received when she invited the Spirit of God to enter in, that she wanted to share her faith with others. But, what could she do since she was old and blind?
As the Spirit guided her in her plan of witness, she realized that she needed a Bible. She did receive one from a friend, but it was written in French! However, this did not stop her; she took the Bible to a missionary and asked her to underline John 3:16 in red.
The next day this old woman began her witnessing She stood at the entrance of a boys' school with the Bible in her hand. As the students walked by her she asked, "Do you know how to read French?" "Sure" was the reply, as they were anxious to reveal what they had learned in language class. She would then ask them to read the passage underlined in red. When they had finished she would say, "Now let me tell you what this means to me."
While you may question the value of the witness of this old lady, reports from missionaries indicate that she led many of the boys to the Christian faith. In fact, twenty-four of them entered the Christian ministry!
Jesus said, concerning the believer, "Out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water." No one knows how great his witness can become if he permits the Spirit to guide him in giving "living water" to others.
