On a late summer afternoon...

On a late summer afternoon, Pastor Rick found himself sitting around the kitchen table with Helen and Abe Robinson. It was a regular visit with a couple that Pastor Rick knew well and whose company he enjoyed. Abe sat with his arms crossed, watching a Yankees game on the 13-inch kitchen television. Helen was busy making coffee and preparing a plate of cookies as she rattled off all the latest news about her family.
Suddenly she went silent. "I'm sorry, Rick, I lost my train of thought. Where was I?"
Pastor Rick was a little embarrassed. He had been sneaking a look at the baseball game and in the sleepy heat of the afternoon, his mind had wandered. "I'm sorry, Helen, those cookies look so good I didn't hear the last part of what you were saying."
"Abe, honey, what was I just saying?"
"Dear, I'm watching the game," said Abe, never taking his eyes off the television "You know the rule: Whenever you talk one of us has got to listen."
We can be thankful that through Jesus Christ, our God always listens to us.
