A little girl and her brother were playing one day when she was involved in a serious accident. The little girl lost a great deal of blood and was near death because she had a very rare blood type. They couldn't locate her parents so the doctors asked her little brother if he might be willing to give blood so that his sister might live.
Well, the little fellow loved his sister very much, but he was having a tough time saying yes. Finally he asked, "Do you promise that if I give my blood my sister will live?" "Well, we can't promise," said the doctor, "but we think that is so." "All right," he said, "I'll do it."
And so they performed the transfusion on him. Afterwards they wheeled him out into the hall where he lay for a while as pale as the sheet covering him. A nurse stood beside him trying to reassure him that his sister was going to live. Finally he interrupted her, "When do I croak?" he said. "What do you mean?" the nurse asked. "When do I croak?" he repeated. "When do I die? I mean I gave my sister my blood didn't I? When do I die?"
