Living during times when food...

Living during times when food is scarce is never a pleasant experience. The people of Malawi were hit with a devastating famine in 2001 and 2002. Floods and cyclones destroyed much of the crops one year, and drought conditions the next left most rural areas with inadequate food. Some people tried to survive on wild fruits, grass seeds, and banana roots. This lead to many deaths as some of the fruits were poisonous. Other farmers, in their desperation, began to eat premature green maize, narrowing their chances of harvestable crop. ACT (Action by Churches Together) together with CARD (Churches Action in Relief and Development) and ELDP (Evangelical Lutheran Development Programme) distributed food to approximately 37,500 families and further gave Likuni Phala, a nutritious food mix, to over 17,000 malnourished children.
For the children of Israel, God rained manna and sent quail to the hungry people of Israel. To the people of Malawi, God rained food through the agencies of the church.
