In Lloyd Douglas' novel, The Robe, there is a scene in which Marcellus, a Roman soldier, has returned from duty in the Middle East during which time he had been in the crowd listening to the teachings of Jesus. With great excitement and enthusiasm he is describing the experiences to his sweetheart, Diana. When he finishes speaking, with a sigh of relief she tells him this is all fine, but now they need to go on living as if it had never happened. Marcellus replies in words that form the heart of the great novel: "No, once you have met Him, you can never go on living as if it had never happened." -- Dickson
