Yesterday I had my mind in the clouds. Having finished several hours of counseling, I was rather heavy with mind trips and the reports that I was making up for each of the counselees. Just then the phone rang. "Hi," came the response. "Hello," I answered. "What are you doing?" asked the person on the other end. "Huh, just sitting here trying to get my desk and office matters in order," I replied. "Don't you know who you are talking to?" inquired the voice. Pausing, I tried in vain to appease the hopeful seeker that I would know who he was. To no avail! "Say more," I begged. "Well, you don't even know your best friend," came the reply. Was I ever embarrassed.
I'm sure that you have been caught up in that same kind of predicament. I'm sure that I am not the only one who has friends who play games like that. It surely was not my intention to not know my best friend. His voice just did not register in my mind because best friends and their voices had been displaced by more urgent matters.
The writer of Revelations would not have us be mind-lost when it comes to hearing from where he is coming. Or to where he is going. And whom he is taking along on the journey of faith.
He is telling us of the Christ. He begins his work with a salutation that is none other than Jesus as the Christ. Let there be no doubt for the reader. No surprise voices here!
