Luz Cuevas never gave up...

Luz Cuevas never gave up hope that her daughter might be found alive. Six years earlier, in 1997, her ten-day-old daughter, Delimar, had vanished from her crib when an explosion and fire occurred in her bedroom in Philadelphia. Investigators determined that the blaze had destroyed the remains of the infant. But, on January 24, 2004, Cuevas was attending a birthday party for a little girl in Willingboro, New Jersey, fifteen miles across the Delaware River from the Cuevas' Philadelphia home. Attending was a little six-year-old girl, Delimar Vera, who Cuevas recognized as her own child. Snatching a couple hairs from the girl as she pretended to discover chewing gum in the child's hair, she was able to establish through DNA testing that Delimar was indeed Delimar Cuevas. It turned out that the woman hosting the birthday party, Evelyn Vera, had been at the Cuevas house the day of the fire. She had led her family to believe that she had been pregnant and that she had given birth to Delimar.
God does not want his people to give up hope, either. Even though the people of Israel were about to lose their city, their temple, and their freedom to Babylon, Jeremiah encourages them to have hope for the future. He follows God's instructions to purchase a parcel of land, giving a visible illustration to the people that their fortunes will be restored in the future. It is the same message of hope that has now been fulfilled with the coming of Jesus Christ, the Messiah and our Savior.
