A Japan Air Lines plane suddenly plunged while making a landing approach to Tokyo Airport, and nose-dived into the waters of Tokyo Bay. Twenty-four passengers were killed and 150 were injured. Afterward, the pilot admitted to investigators that he had felt sick and pushed the control stick forward, sending the plane into a dive just before it was ready to land. He had brought the plane and the passengers so close, but he came short of a happy landing.
Daniel, the great Old Testament statesman and prophet, was given a vision of the triumph of true believers. Then he was told, "And you, Daniel, be faithful to the end. Then you will die, but you will rise to receive your reward at the end of time."
God's counsel is also for us. We have the promise of a place in God's eternal kingdom, and the means for a "happy landing" -- faith in Christ and trust in God's Word. Let's guard against any attack of spiritual sickness that will, at the last minute, cause us to "crash" and miss the future that God has waiting for us.
