Human life is sometimes sustained in strange and wonderful ways.
In Ft. Knox, Kentucky, a fifteen-year-old boy, trapped alone under a wrecked car in freezing weather for five days, survived on a single beer that had tumbled from the trunk of the car. The beer was his only nourishment, and it took him two days to free himself to reach it. Besides sipping on the beer, the boy prayed, thought about his family, school, and friends, and yelled each time he heard a car pass on the rural road, beyond the dense brush which hid the wreckage of the car. He was found by a passerby who heard his faint cries for help. The family had just about given up hope when he was found. "That's what we thank God for most," said his mother -- "that he's alive."
A miracle of God worked through his prophet Elijah preserved the lives of the widow at Zarephath and her son. The household supply of flour and oil was continually replenished. The important thing is not just to recognize a special saving event in our lives, but to praise God for his mercy and goodness and to dedicate our life to his service and glory.
