God's people have always poured out their praise and thanks to him in song. After the miraculous crossing of the Red Sea, Moses and the Israelites sang a song to the Lord which included these words (Exodus 15):
"I will sing to the Lord,
because he has won
a glorious victory ...
The Lord is my strong defender;
he is the one who has saved me."
In the Book of Judges, chapter 5, we are told that Deborah and Barak sang a song to God after he gave them victory over Sisera and the Canaanite army:
I will sing and play music
to Israel's God, the Lord.
Chapter 5 of the Book of Revelation contains great songs of praise to the risen, glorified and exalted Christ, the Lamb of God:
"To him who sits on the throne and
to the Lamb, be praise and honor,
glory and might,
forever and ever!"
The words of Jeremiah are appropriate to God's people of every age: "Sing your song of praise, 'The Lord has saved his people ...' "
