While Pope John Paul II made his tumultuous visit to the U.S., Time magazine quoted a Boston woman: "He makes me think that the world and the people in it are not as bad as they seem." The Time writer concluded his article: "... John Paul's presence and words reminded Americans -- and the world -- that humanity does have a higher nature." The problem of degrading and disparaging the human being is illustrated in this limerick: "The sages for aeons have tried To explain why man lived, worked and died, But after shelf upon shelf, Of books on myself, Who am I, I can't really decide." Or we can see the point in a "Peanuts" cartoon. Snoopy is lying on top of his house, musing, "The king of beasts! That's what I'd really like to be. I would impress people if I were king of the beasts!" A second thought came, "But who wants to be a beast?"
