In Bald Creek Cemetery in Washington, D C., is America's most famous piece of sculpture -- Gutzon Borglum's bronze figure of Mary Magdalene standing at the doorway of the empty tomb on the first Easter morning. She has just recognized her Lord. This woman who was a prostitute, who had previously no meaning to life, no knowledge of how to live, who had been only existing and suffering, to her he had told how to live. She thought it had ended in his death. In the cold, hard metal the artist has caught the glow of hope and joy of recognizing him whom she thought to be dead. Under the statue is carved the one word, "Rabboni." This catches the spirit of Easter. She saw that because he lives, she can live also -- undefeated, unwavering, victorious ...
