Madeline L'Engle once shared her reflections on this piece of scripture. In her book Penguins and Golden Calves, she wrote of Jesus:
"After his resurrection, when he returned to his disciples and friends, he bestowed peace upon them, not anger or punishment. The first thing he said to them was not 'Where were you when I needed you?' but 'Peace be with you.' "
We have an awesome Savior who pursues not revenge, but forgiveness. The risen Christ offers us not anger, but peace.
