Maney Hill Primary School in England recently held their school sports day without any parents in attendance. The reasoning behind the move was to allow children to compete in the games without the added pressure of their parents.
In Canada, television ads depict a father challenging a teacher at a gunnysack race about the size of a competitor and the quality of his son's sack, among other things. The father makes a complete fool of himself. The ad ends with the words, "If it is wrong here, why is it right at the rink?"
Most young athletes love to have their parents in the stands cheering them on, offering them words of encouragement. Sometimes, however, the parents forget that their child is simply in the sport because they want to have fun; they are not the next Michael Jordan or Wayne Gretzky.
God has wisely surrounded us with a crowd of witnesses. These witnesses silently pray us on in our walk of faith, and never put undo or inappropriate pressures on us.
