Many stories are told about fathers who left their families behind and came to our shores to make a new life. There must have been some touching scenes as wives and small children kissed Father "good-bye" and watched him cross the gangplank to sail off to a new land. What would it be like in that new land? Would it be an easier life than the one being left behind? Would the newly-adopted land be as pretty as the homeland? Questions like this could go on forever. But only after Father sent for the family to come would those questions be answered. No one could tell by using the imagination. Jesus told his disciples about the rooms in his father's house. He said that he would go to prepare the place for us. Can you imagine what a place would look like that Jesus would prepare for us? Wow! The very thought of a home with him is cause for much joy on our part. Even while we wait to go there, we are told not to let our hearts be troubled about the home he has prepared. Thomas Campbell left Scotland and came to America to make a new life. He needed to worship freely as he pleased. His family followed. His son Alexander became one of the founding fathers of The Christian Church/Disciples of Christ. Not only did they make a new life in America, they also started a new denomination which became the first bred on American soil. It has carved its niche in our history. If two servants of God could do what the Campbells did, just imagine what kind of a church Jesus Christ has built for us in his father's house.
